PHPTriad: Resurrection

Due to a great deal of encouragement, continued interest in the product and a belief that this can be made to work, PHPTriad 3.0 (now called Sokkit) is under development. It will most likely be provided in a commercial form at a relatively low pricepoint (< $50, probably between $15 and $25). A free option, possibly stripped of some functionality may be released in the future, but not initially. I want to start Sokkit slowly. By only releasing the commercial version initially, I will be able to ensure that all support requests come from paying users. Only after that point will any free versions of Sokkit be released.

This may seem harsh and I will no doubt receive criticism for this decision. I have already received numerous emails accusing me of betrayal and asking to just turn over the code to an individual or a group for "free" maintenance. The reality is that I'm rewriting the whole thing from scratch. If an individual or group has the desire, there is nothing stopping them from making a visit to Apache.org, MySQL.com and PHP.net, spending a while fiddling with it and you can recreate what was PHPTriad. Most of what Sokkit "is" is in my head. If you want a free package, there are several others out there. If you, as I do, believe that PHPTriad was a high quality product and you'd rather use it than the alternatives, well . . . you've just described a pretty good reason to pay the small sticker price that Sokkit will bear.

A skeleton page for the new Sokkit product page is up at http://www.sokkit.net/pragmacms/
